Most reasonable people, including stanch vegetarians, would say bon appétit if our choice to eat anything—animals, eggs, wombat eyebrows, or mud—had no affect on anyone but ourselves. But as we will see our practice of consuming animals and their byproducts destructively impacts just about everyone and everything on a scale of magnitude that is profound.
Freedom is only freedom when it has little or no affect on others. When it does impact others the claim of freedom can no longer be defended.
We often legislate the restriction of practices that don’t affect others and ignore practices that do. It is time we reverse this twisted thinking. Here would be a great place to start.
