Menopause is the period marked by the natural and permanent cessation of menstruation—a natural event in a every woman’s life. What, then, would Nature’s motivation be for linking a myriad of physical, mental, and emotional maladies—hot flashes, sweating, dryness, burning, osteoporosis, and depression—with this process? What should be a time of liberation for every woman from the toil of preparing for pregnancy every month has become a time to manage a disease with drugs?
This huge chasm between the expectation and the reality makes little sense. There has to be a concrete explanation. We have come to accept the advice of the medical community that menopause requires intervention to combat its spectrum of physical degeneration. There is no other way, they say. Well, they are a somewhat correct in a roundabout way, intervention is required, and it does have something to do with introducing a material into the body—but the material is plant-source foods?
Mother Nature was trying to do women a favor by introducing menopause. Let’s hope our culture comes to appreciate her offering by way of changing our diet and changing our attitude.
