The word, irony, is defined as, incongruity between what might be expected to happen and what actually happens, especially when this disparity seems absurd or laughable. The many ironies of the American diet are absurd, if not tragic, but given the consequences of our choices there is certainly nothing to laugh about.
It is hard to imagine, given our unlimited potential and the amazing achievements we have accomplished on this planet, that we have made such an obvious blunder when it comes to choosing our diet—an importance second only to procreation to the survival of our species.
If we tried to submit any of these scenarios in a movie script we would be admonished for being too far out to be believable. Unfortunately, for us, it isn’t a movie script but real life, and if we don’t want to see it have an unhappy ending we might want to reconsider our food choices.
