Top 30 Myths and Half-Myths We Have About Diet, Disease, and Medicine

At face value any rational individual would be skeptical that the following 30 myths (in bold) are just that—myths. They have been repeated so often, for so long, they are assumed to be true.

          However, if one is willing to keep an open mind, review the empirical evidence, and appreciate the commercial, political, psychological, physiological, and sociological influences at play in perpetuating these myths, then the skepticism will give way to cynicism and we as a species can take a big step forward.

          We go through life often accepting at face value what we hear, read, and watch as truth. Many times, probably more than we think, they turn out not to be true. In most of the cases we are not affected by our misperceptions. But in one area of our lives, if we are wrong, we risk diminishing the quality and quantity of our lives, often to a great degree. Do we really want to take that risk?
